You say that it takes more than one's money and time to be able to locate the sort of things you offer on your site. My husband and I plan a trip to Zimbabwe next summer. Are you trying to say we don't stand much chance? We are hoping to be able to purchase some antiques.
Tracy. -Houston, Texas

You stand a chance. And we are always willing to be of assistance to intending comers. Please feel free to email us concerning this (infoafrica@nilestreet.faithweb.com). What it takes apart from Money and time to be able to get what you want here is know-how. And maybe some luck.

Sometime in the 80's I went on official assignment to Nigeria. Then I had the opportunity to experience a good deal of the people's unique hospitality. I hear that now it's a whole different story.

You might be right. Economic downturns, Political Instability and high corruption have changed a lot of things in the West African state of Nigeria. But talking of Art we are confident to say that some of our biggest finds have come from that Country. Maybe you would know that that country is the base of the ancient Ife civilization.

I recently ordered a set of Mats. Although I must admit that they really are something to look at on our table and that you could almost smell the ancient originality in each piece, however I would like to know why I couldn't order exactly the design that I want online. Why do my range of choices be limited to border color? I should think that a better way would be to choose my own very pattern and shapes.
Sherry. -New York

Thanks for the words. Please let us remind you that these Mats are not factory made things as with most of the things we use in the west. They are Art works. These people don't make them for money parse. The dyeing process is part of their culture and in the olden days only Royalty wears them. We cannot control what they will produce. Nor how much. All we can do is wait and see what will come. But still you can select your preferred border taping color.

I read an Interview you had with Cosmos recently in which you stated that your products are naturally auctioning products. Can you shed more light on this?
Monica. -L.A

These products are essentially Art. Their real values are very high. Our sales approach is to start at the bottom and then let the price rise according to demand. Like in the case of Mapuo placemats, we envisage that by Christmas 2001 their price per mat should be between 145 and 160 dollars. Some may think that our prices are inconsistent. I assure you that they are not. In fact considering the effort put into each piece I would be tempted to say that it is our starting prices that are not very realistic. But that is our sales policy and it has always worked in the long run.
